“Children at play are absorbed in one undivided experience. While playing, the outside world does not exist for them. They are not aware of comfort or discomfort; they feel neither hunger nor thirst, neither pain nor weariness. For them play is a joy, not a.duty. This principle has to be applied to all kinds of learning” - Vinoba Bhave.
The transfer of attitude and skills acquired through value games played in young age to real life situation in later years should be evident to everyone. Sri Sathya Sal Baba says: “Life is a game, play it”. For any game to be enjoyed rules have to be mutually agreed upon; and for progress and peace in society, a similar Code of Conduct is essential for all citizens. Harmony in the world requires that all of us submit to a spiritual discipline. This is our Dharma.
Group games promote a unique interaction among participants. In the first instance, they shift focus from purely academic pursuit in schools to self-actualization. Secondly, when children take part in group activities, they are motivated to spontaneous expression of their feelings and thoughts. Moreover, each child gets the opportunity to uniquely contribute according to its ability, thus helping itto realise full potential.
Games and group activities form the most versatile way among the teaching techniques used in the curriculum of Sri Sathya Sai Education in Human Values (EHV). With the objective of “Bringing out ‘from within the Human Values latent in every Human Being and put them into practice”, a wide range of activities is included in this book.
This book will be found extremely useful in schools, during party games as well as at home. It has been trial-tested with many children and teen-agers, in the age group of 4 to 17 years. It is perhaps the most valuable gift we can offer to people on their birthdays. Most games for small children are simple, but their complexity has been raised for teen-agers so that they can equally enjoy them at home and in various training programes.
