The objective of the ‘Towards Human Excellence’ programme of the Institute of Sathya Sai Education is to enable a balanced and wholesome development of all aspects of a child’s personality.
The five teaching Techniques are an integral part of the methodology for inculcating the values among children. These techniques have been trial tested in several schools for the past few years, and their impact have been found to be very deep and long lasting. The use of these techniques in the classroom require a teacher to be proficient and versatile in the communication aspect. Moreover, it is very important to remember that the impact on children is directly dependent upon the teacher’s faith in the system and practice of these techniques in daily life.
Children learn best when they are active participants in the process of learning. The balance between gathering information of the external world and acquiring knowledge of the inner Self Education and Educare is facilitated when the classroom becomes a practical laboratory for exploration under the careful guidance of a ‘trained’ teacher. The approach adopted in Experiential Learning best meets these requirements.
An experienced teacher will realise that the approach adopted here is a combination of several time-tested methods. However, the innovative teacher is expected to transcend the limitations of each of these methods and arrive at a new understanding, holistic in nature, promoting intuitive knowledge. Experiential Learning is just that.
An attempt has been made in this book to present this approach with a large number of examples. All topics presented have been tried out in actual classroom situations with children of age range 6+ to 12+ years, or in ‘teacher training’ courses. The response has been overwhelming. The potential is tremendous, which can be accomplished with the teacher’s creativity and resourcefulness.
